Why Should Child-Care Workers Be More Reward?

Nowadays, child care centers all over Japan are suffering from staff shortages. Actually, even though there are 1.06million people qualified as child care workers, only 367,000 currently work. Why don't they want to engage in this job? There are 2 main reasons.

First, their salaries are low. The average monthly salary of this job stands at 220,000yen, which scarcely increase even with years of experience. This condition is attributed to small amount of subsidies by the central government.

Second, despite the low salary, the work is really hard. Especially these days, centers are trying to expand hours to include evenings and holidays. What is more, their work is swollen due to the shortage of the staff.

Needless to say, child-care staff's duty is to take care of one of the country's most precious resources --its children. Actually they do more than just babysit, like making children express themselves, experience nature, or exercise in a lot of kinds of activities, and all of which lead them to healthy development. In short, the workers should deserve better. Hence, the central government should take this into account, and it should make the centers more attractive as workplaces.
